Advisers in Action: Real talk on joining the Later Life Lending sector

At the recent Later Life Lending Summit at Church House, Westminster, I had the pleasure of joining Sandy Ameer-Beg (Acclaimed Mortgage Consultancy) and Ryan Mansell (Fluent Money) for a lively panel discussion: “Advisers in Action: Why We Chose Later Life Lending.” Expertly facilitated by Tom Brett from the Equity Release Council, our 15-minute slot may have been brief—but it was packed with insight, experience, and plenty of honest reflections.

We shared our routes into the sector, what we wish we’d known when starting out, and the practical steps that helped us gain early confidence (spoiler: mentorship and specialist networks go a long way!). Sandy offered a brilliant take on building trust with clients and families during emotionally charged conversations, and Ryan delivered some golden advice for those deciding whether to specialise, refer, or dive into later life lending for the first time.

With a room full of curious advisers, many eyeing up CeMAP and CeRER qualifications, it was encouraging to see so much interest in a growing, rewarding field. We didn’t have time for questions (thanks to our pre-lunch slot!) but the buzz afterwards said it all.

Big thanks to the Equity Release Council, Aviva, and the LIBF for supporting the event. I’m hopeful we’ll repeat the session at the Adviser Summit later this year, with more new faces, fresh perspectives, and shared experiences to help the next wave of advisers thrive.
