5 minutes with…Mike Jones

Take five and get to know Mike Jones from Mewstone Financial, a passionate gamer and streamer who loves connecting with others online. We asked Mike to share some things you may not know about him… read on to find out more.

What is your role at Mewstone Financial? I joined Mewstone Mortgage Advice 12 months ago with the goal of establishing a dedicated later life lending arm within the business. Over this time, I’ve significantly increased the volume of later life and lifetime mortgage cases, building Mewstone Later Life into a recognised and trusted brand within our company.

I manage the day-to-day operations, marketing, and profitability of this business area, and I’m passionate about recording content and laying the foundations to grow and strengthen the business for the future.

If you could describe your workday using only emojis, which ones would you choose? ☀️💻📧✍️🤝🗂️😊

What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned or experienced while working in your industry? One of the most unexpected things I’ve learned in my industry is how personal and transformative later-life lending decisions can be for clients. It’s not just about numbers or securing a deal—it’s about hearing their stories, understanding their dreams, and helping them navigate complex emotions tied to their homes, finances, and future.

Each client brings a unique situation, and I’ve found that empathy and holistic advice often matter just as much as the financial solutions I provide. It’s this human side of the industry that continues to surprise and inspire me.

If you could swap roles with anyone else in your company for a day, who would it be, and what do you think you’d learn from the experience? If I could swap roles with anyone in the company for a day, it would definitely be Kate, our office manager. She’s an absolute machine when it comes to admin—organised, efficient, and always on top of things.

I think I’d learn a lot about streamlining processes, managing multiple tasks with ease, and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Plus, I’m sure I’d come away with a newfound appreciation for just how much work goes into making our day-to-day operations seamless!

What’s the most exciting project you’ve been a part of at your company, and why? The most exciting project I’ve been a part of has been working with a social media coach to enhance our visibility in the later-life lending space. Collaborating on strategies to reach the right audience and share meaningful content has been eye-opening. A highlight of this journey was releasing my 10 Steps to Equity Release long-form video on YouTube. It felt amazing to take a topic I’m passionate about and present it in a way that’s both educational and accessible. Seeing the positive feedback and knowing its helping people make informed decisions about their financial future has been incredibly rewarding.

Who inspires you and why? My children inspire me the most. My eldest son, Oliver, who isn’t neurotypical, amazes me with his cheeky personality and buckets of confidence. He faces challenges with such resilience and reminds me daily to embrace individuality and celebrate small victories. My daughter, Millie, is such a happy little girl, full of life and curiosity. Her infectious energy and joy for the simplest things make me want to approach life with the same enthusiasm.

Tell us about a hobby or passion of yours outside of work that you enjoy. Outside of work, one of my biggest passions is gaming and streaming. I love immersing myself in different games, which helps me unwind and recharge after a busy day. Streaming has been a fantastic way to connect with others who share the same interests, chat while playing, and create a fun, relaxed space for viewers to hang out. It’s not just a hobby—it’s a way to balance work and life while sharing something I genuinely enjoy with a community.

Name your dream holiday location. My dream holiday location would be Alaska. I’ve never been before, but the idea of solitude, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and untouched nature, really appeals to me.

What is the best book you have read? The best book I’ve read is The Celestine Prophecy. It’s such a thought-provoking and inspiring story that explores ideas about intuition, energy, and the interconnectedness of life. It really resonated with me and made me think differently about the world and how we interact with it. It’s a book that stays with you long after you’ve finished it.
