Take five and read about Daniel Edmondson, national account manager at Advise Wise. From interesting facts about snakes to finding out about his inspiration.. enjoy this fun feature.

What is your role at Advise Wise?
I am a National Account Manager, responsible for managing key accounts and fostering relationships within the later life lending industry. These accounts range from advisory and lending services to legal and various other third parties relevant to the later life lending space. My role involves ‘adding value’ wherever I can. Working in sales, business development, account management, and national accounts means that in everything I do, I aim to ensure our clients receive the best possible service and support, helping them navigate the complexities of our sector. I strive to share as much knowledge and expertise as possible.

If you could describe your workday using only emojis, which ones would you choose?

What’s the most unexpected thing you’ve learned or experienced while working in your industry?
The most unexpected thing I’ve learned is how profoundly equity release can positively impact people’s lives, providing them with financial flexibility and peace of mind in their later years. Additionally, the amazing individuals who work within the sector have been a pleasant surprise. I’ve never worked in an industry where everyone is so motivated to see others succeed. This sense of community is why I’m happy growing a career in the later life market.

If you could swap roles with anyone else in your company for a day, who would it be, and what do you think you’d learn from the experience?
I would swap roles with our CEO, Jonathan Thirkill. It would be fascinating to gain insight into the strategic decision-making process and understand the broader vision that guides our company. As someone with aspirations to be a leader and progress in my career, I have been fortunate to be a vital part of decision-making at Advise Wise. I look forward to growing and developing even more. Nothing good comes from a comfort zone, and stepping into the CEO’s shoes for a day would be a valuable experience in pushing my boundaries.

What’s the most exciting project you’ve been a part of at your company, and why?
One of the most exciting projects was the launch of our integrated Fact Find and Suitability Letter. It involved cross-functional collaboration and innovative solutions to improve user experience, enabling users to leverage Advise Wise as much more than just a sourcing platform. Seeing increased usage and receiving positive feedback from our users was incredibly rewarding. This, along with many other innovations at Advise Wise, led to us winning the Equity Release Awards’ “Best Distribution Firm for Adviser Support” earlier this year. There are many other projects I’m currently involved in that I would love to share, but perhaps they will appear in future features.

Who inspires you and why?
My inspiration comes from my grandparents. Though no longer with us, they shaped who I am today. In everything I do, I strive to make the most out of what I have, not take things for granted, and prioritise experiences over material possessions.

Tell us about a hobby or passion of yours outside of work that you enjoy.
Wow, where do I start…? I am passionate about adventure and the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking, rock climbing, or exploring new trails, being in nature helps me recharge and find balance. I love pushing myself out of my comfort zone, constantly trying new hobbies and challenging myself.

Name your dream holiday location.
My dream holiday location is New Zealand. The stunning landscapes and outdoor activities make it a perfect destination for an adventure enthusiast like myself. Did you know, apart from Zoo’s New Zealand is snake free. That’s a win in my eyes!

What is the best book you have read?
One of the best books I’ve read is “The Go-Giver” 📕 by Bob Burg and John David Mann. It’s a compelling story that highlights the importance of giving and adding value to others, which resonates with both personal and professional aspects of life. I recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their approach to success and relationships. I would also recommend to anyone with children, “Who Moved My Cheese?” by Spencer Johnson, a great book illustrating just how to deal with change.
