Welcome from Sean Smith and Latest Council News

Spring – lighter evenings, the start of the cricket season, the launch of a new pound coin, the start of a general election campaign – and only 250 shopping days till Christmas!

We have published the latest Equity Release Market Report, which highlights consumer trends and industry activities that have helped the equity release sector to achieve over £2bn lending in a calendar year for the very first time.

The Council’s website has completed its new look in time for the new season, making it easier to navigate on the device of your choosing. We hope you enjoy using the new site.

Against this backdrop of increased lending, the Council commissioned research into the socio-economic landscape and the role equity release can play within that. The resulting paper Equity Release Rebooted: the future of housing equity as retirement income will be launched at the House of Commons on 26th April.

You should have received a link to our Members’ Survey, where we would really like to hear from you about the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. There’s still time to complete it as the closing date has been extended to Thursday 20th April. Your feedback in this area, along with the research paper, will help inform the Council’s public affairs activities, to enable us to continue to represent you in the highest possible manner.

Finally, our chairman, Nigel Waterson, will be attending the IFF conference in Hamburg on 11th May and they would like to also extend the invitation to our members. Please register with the IFF if you wish to attend.
